As CEO of PayChoice, Robert is responsible for the overall leadership of the software and service bureau divisions. He brings to the position more than 20 years of payroll, HR and benefits industry expertise, with proven operational success in leading high-performance organizations and customer centric service organizations. He is the former President of RSM McGladrey Employer Services, the payroll, HR and benefit services company of RSM McGladrey / H&R Block. Robert also held senior leadership roles during his 15 year career at Ceridian, including President of PowerPay Internet small business payroll division, Senior VP of Marketing and Senior VP of Sales / Client Services for Ceridian Corporation. While at Ceridian, he also directed a national sales organization of 480 sales representatives. A Captain in the U.S. Army, Robert received his B.A. in Economics from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) where he graduated as a distinguished military and honor graduate.
As a Managing Partner, Matt Vettel is responsible for transaction origination and investment policy of Great Hill Partners. His investment experience covers a diverse group of industries including software, transaction processing, education and healthcare. He serves as a director of FirstCall HealthCare, Freightquote.com, High-Tech Institute Holdings, Inc., MR Default Services and Neumont University, LLC. Prior to Great Hill Partners, Matt was an associate at GTCR Golder Rauner, a $6 billion private equity investment firm, and served on the boards of companies in the technology, healthcare and media sectors. Previously he was a Senior Associate at Accenture and a founding member of PureSpeech, Inc., a speech recognition software company acquired by Voice Control Systems. He has also served on the Board of Directors of BillMatrix, SmartMail, LLC, K-Solutions, Inc., Park City Solutions, Delite Outdoor, Lifecare Management and Trans Healthcare. He holds a BS in Industrial Engineering and Management from North Dakota State University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Matt currently serves as Chairman of the Match School Foundation, a charter high school that prepares inner-city Boston students to succeed in college.
From 2004 through 2008, Bill led the effort to not only acquire Payroll Associates, LLC, but to purchase the Payroll Associates' software licensees who desired to join in the creation of PayChoice. Under his leadership, PayChoice grew from 40 employees to more than 350 and was recognized by the Inc. 5000 as one of the fastest growing companies in America. Bill is also the former Chief Executive Officer of InterPay, Inc. From 1987 to 2000, Bill grew InterPay from 70 employees and 2,000 clients to more than 685 employees and nearly 30,000 clients. At the time of its ultimate sale to Fleet Bank (purchased by Bank of America), InterPay was the 5th largest payroll processing company in the US. In 2003, InterPay was sold to Paychex for $185 million. An innovator in the payroll industry, Bill left retirement to build another dream.
Philip is responsible for originating and evaluating investment opportunities in the transaction processing, technology-enabled business services, logistics and education sectors. Prior to joining Great Hill Partners, Philip was an Associate at Carousel Capital, a middle market LBO firm headquartered in Charlotte, NC. At Carousel, Philip executed transactions in the business and consumer services, healthcare, manufacturing and communications arenas. His responsibilities included sourcing and reviewing potential investments, executing transactions and working with existing Carousel portfolio companies. Philip also worked as an Analyst with Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown in the Consumer and Business Services investment banking group, where he was involved in several equity offerings, debt placements and advisory assignments. Philip holds a B.S. in Business Administration with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Bill directs Baird Venture Partners' activities within the business services sector. Bill’s focus areas include outsourced services, financial services and information services. Prior to joining Baird Venture Partners in 2000, he was a Vice President in Baird's Investment Banking Group, where he participated in a variety of equity offerings and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Baird in 1995, Bill spent five years with LaSalle Partners, where he worked in various investment capacities assisting institutions to invest in the real estate sector. In addition to PAI Group, Inc., Bill is a member of the board of directors of Austin Logistics Incorporated, Pinstripe, Inc., Salis, Inc., and SnagAJob.com, Inc. Bill also sits on the industry advisory board for Finance & Accounting Today magazine and the Wisconsin Technology Council. In December of 2005, Bill was named by HRO Today magazine as an industry All-Star for his strong investment activity in the sector. Bill also serves on the advisory board of the Wisconsin Technology Council. He received a BBA from the University of Wisconsin and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, with majors in Finance and Strategic Management.
Nick is responsible for originating and evaluating investment opportunities in the financial technology, business and consumer services, and software sectors. He is currently a director of Accelerated Payment Technologies (fka CAM Commerce) and PayChoice and a former director of FirstCall Healthcare and a former board observer of Custom House. Prior to joining Great Hill Partners, Nick was an Associate at CCP Equity Partners, a growth equity capital provider to financial services and healthcare services companies. At CCP, his responsibilities included screening and evaluating potential investments, executing transactions and working with existing portfolio companies. Prior to CCP, Nick was an Associate at GE Commercial Finance’s National Restructuring and Retail Finance Group, where he was involved in executing and managing senior secured, second lien and distressed debt transactions. Nick received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Bentley College, where he graduated with honors.
Ben has a deep understanding of the financial services industry. For almost two decades, he has helped companies specializing in financial services, consumer products, information technology and marketing automation prosper and grow. Before joining North Hill Ventures, Ben was a Project Leader at The Boston Consulting Group, where he focused on serving financial services corporations and companies that supply them with critical infrastructure components. His consulting engagements included strategic alternatives analyses, product development studies, and merger and acquisition evaluations. Earlier in his career, Ben also worked as a consultant at McKinsey and Company. Ben holds an M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, and a B.A. in Quantitative Economics and Political Science from Stanford University.
